BACKGROUND OF PROJECT
|
|
The dairy
processing plant was established as part of the WAMCO Integrated Dairy Farm
Project to process milk produced on the project farm and collected from
smallholder dairy farmers in the area. HVA International started with
development of the farm in 1986 and provides operational management since
then.

SCOPE OF WORK
|
|
The
processing facilities of the WAMCO Integrated Dairy Farm Project were
established in two stages. In 1989, when the cows started to produce milk, a
cheese plant was established with a daily capacity of 3,000 litres of raw
milk. The main product was Gouda cheese. In 1992 a yoghurt line was
installed, increasing the daily capacity to 5,500 litres. At the same time
the cheese plant was adapted to make the production of cheddar cheese
possible. The production of pasteurised milk for direct consumption was also
started. Cold storage capacity was increased to 25 tonnes of cheese.
