Technical assistance and training to the
KPSBU, a dairy farmers cooperative, with main focus on hygienic quality

BACKGROUND OF PROJECT
|
|
From January 2001 up to April 2003,
the dairy smallholders cooperative KPSBU in Lembang on Java, was supported
with equipment and training under a subsidy of the Dutch Ministry of
Economic Affairs. This Senter project (PSIO/R1/1/12) was initiated and
partly financed by Frisian Flag Indonesia (FFI).
A the end of the project period, the compositional quality of the milk
delivered to FFI in Jakarta had improved significantly. However, the
bacteriological quality had not yet improved enough. On request of the
KPSBU cooperative, FFI agreed to an extension project with the aim to
specifically improve the hygienic quality to below 3 million cfu/ml.

SCOPE OF WORK
|

Evaluating,
checking and where necessary adjust the practices within the full Milk
Collection Scheme through 8 missions of 2 weeks spread out over a 2
years period. |

Training the
extension workers in clean milk production and in methods to improve the
hygienic standards on the farms. |
 |
Train the KPSBU
extension and animal health staff in sub-clinical mastitis and milk
handling hygiene. |
 |
Stimulate the
KPSBU to implement better milk collection and milk payment procedures. |
 |
Realise by the
end of the project sustainable Total Plate Count (TPC) values of below 3
million cfu/ml. |
 |
Through 4 short
missions, support the KSPBU in the maintenance of the milk handling, CIP
and can washing equipment as supplied under the PSIO project. |
 |
Increase quality
awareness of both the farmers and the co-operative employees through
training programs.
